We have just produced a short collage gif around the word screech. The word was inspired by our uncomfortable image pictures, of which we found most similarity between my fingers on a chalkboard image and Aarons image of a silhouette suffocating. Which immediately identified that both images were based around fear and an innate cringe type reaction we have to intense danger. For this reason we chose the onomatopoeic word, screech as a sharp reaction to either stimuli. We wanted to include both of our uncomfortable images in some way so we started by agreeing that the suffocating man should form part of the background and the hand should be in some way smothering or strangling him. Finding some unnerving headlines in a magazine to surround the images and give a sense of story we then worked giving some concept of sound radiating from the figures mouth. The addition of bubble wrap at the end heightened the feeling of claustrophobia and entrapment for the figure. After one attempt that didn't translate too well we refined our ideas and made a composition that screwed itself up and was masked in tape at the end. This gave the desired effect of an abrupt ending, translating the word screech well. The task gave us a very basic introduction to kind of lateral visual thinking.
