26 character publication 2 first day

Today we began work on the 26 character publication. I have struggled over the past few days to gather my 5 important objects and most of what I have at uni is just material. However I came in with: glasses, Modern chairs book, sushi roll matt, cufflinks and a banana. The reasons behind each object were mainly visual as I felt there was an interesting mixture of materials, shapes and sizes. We were asked to look at our objects and write down characteristics of them and see what similarities or links we could draw. The sort of thing that kept coming up in my objects were 'ergonomic' because they all are used to perform and action and have moving parts. Another link was material and can often be found in my room. These links were fairly vague but with little time to complete the publication I got working on a possible composition.

This was the composition I worked on using photoshop. I attribute it to panic as I couldn't think of any real themes that linked all 5 objects. Creating some kind of surrealist landscape or scene using them seemed like a good idea. However I quickly realised that I should really have got off my laptop and experimented more physically. But with an idea still not presenting itself, this was all I had. I had planned to view the scene through the slats in the sushi matt but the visibility was actually quite poor so this was not possible. The woman sitting down was scanned from the book on modern chairs. Creating a character that I could use throughout was a good option for progression but with no real them I felt slightly under motivated.
