Book binding induction

Today we explored an area which I have covered briefly last year on my foundation. I remember doing Japanese binding and liking the concept of taking my own book design to completion using manual methods. The skills I have learn will definitely come into practice on the next brief. We moved at pace through 3 different techniques which provide a good basic standing point that can be developed further, for example Japanese binding can be done in a number of abstract designs. The simplistic method is also quite versatile and I can see myself using it if pushed for time and going for a clean, minimal aesthetic. The most fiddly was the concertina which involved a lot of PVA glue and was a nightmare for me as I was rushing and ended up with glue on most of the pages. When doing these techniques in future more care and attention would be put in and I'm confident I could come through with some really clean results. These techniques will really come in handy when binding my three publications in the next module. Picture of final three bellow:
