Paul Klee - a Collection of Poems

Paul Klee (18 December 1879 – 29 June 1940) was a German artist with a highly individual style, influenced by movements including ExpressionismCubism, and Surrealism

Klee experimented with and eventually deeply explored colour theory, writing about it extensively; his lectures Writings on Form and Design Theory, published in English as the Paul Klee Notebooks, are held to be as important for modern art as Leonardo da Vinci's A Treatise on Painting for the Renaissance (likened to Da Vinci as was Bruno Munari).

His collection of poetry published post humorously in 'Some Poems by Paul Klee' was selected by the translator Anselm Hollo from Klees Notebooks. Some of the poems can add to or alter the meaning of a corresponding painting when presented in conjunction with it.

His works reflect his dry humour and his sometimes childlike perspective (links it partially to the Frog and Toad Together), his personal moods and beliefs, and his musicality.

Reading reviews of Some Poems it becomes apparent that the collection isn't respected by everyone. I have a limited understanding of poetry but I would suggest this may be due to the informal style and structure. In terms of the construction of the poems I believe they don't really conform to traditional structures, a quality that is shared with both of the other books.
