This morning I came in at 10 before CoP to get my vinyl cut. The process fairly straight forward and the technician really helpful. I had initially planned to print two exit signs and one this way however it dawned on me that I would be making a lot of time consuming transfer work for myself. I instead cut one of each with a selection of two of the arrows. The vinyl I used was from the graphic design selection. I didn't really want this bright red, however there was no black and I didn't want to spend lots per square metre. The red doesn't quite match my accent red but finding an exact match and getting it ordered in would have taken up time that I don't have. I had a few problems with the sheer scale of my vinyl and had to split the 'this way' sign into 3 segments. This allowed me to to manage the transfer roll a lot better as I struggled with it for a while.
I managed to get my 'this way' out on the wall outside the room after CoP. This however meant that it was fairly dark when I got round to taking pictures. Hopefully the vinyl will remain until at least tomorrow so I can take better quality pictures. I encountered two practical problems when putting the text up. I split the vinyl once again to make it 4 sections due to space on the wall. This created some minor problems with the kerning and I feel the 'this' and 'way' might be slightly too close. Also the fact the wall isn't entirely flat between the bricks mean't some letters struggled to stick and I had to place the descriptive words slightly further to the right than intended. This said I think the end result is effective and I look forward to taking better pictures and putting up the exit sign tomorrow. I think an entirely different background material would be good for the second vinyl to give me contrast and experimentation. For this reason I'm thinking of sticking it on the long glass window near fashion.
