Today we had our final crit and chance for peer feedback before hand in on Friday. It was a silent crit for which I had prepared far better than the one on brief two. I had my two design board pages and the viewfinder for one of my specimen ideas.
There was a lot of positive feedback with people picking out the concept of the view finder as being particularly strong. People also said it was apparent I had done thorough contextual research which is not only a testament to a well rounded idea but also shows my rational was concise. I feel the reference to Gestalt really helped me with this as it demonstrated I had done some reading behind the concept, strengthening my ideas relevance. People largely rated me at around a 60-69% 2:1 level which I feel is a fair reflection and still gives me room to improve.
One of the negatives or notes for improvement was that I could have given a definition of the word, which is a fair reflection as it is not immediately clear why the word has the characteristics it has. Another review commented on including different weights to give my face greater versatility, a development I would look to do as a next step. In terms of presentation it was said that my mock ups were too bad quality, a point I very much agree with, I'm not quite sure why they came out like that. There was also some comment on the consistency of some of my letters e.g. the 'm' having 3 vanishing points and the 'b' or 'g' only having one which is fair, although my rule was that only straight lines where available and only one side if not available should have the rule shape incorporated. I should have made this rule clearer in my rationale.
The next step is for me to get the vinyl cut letters all done tomorrow morning and get some stuck up around uni to be photographed properly. Other than this I feel the idea is fairly complete and I have achieved what I set out to achieve.
