I went into today’s crit with a pretty
clear idea of what my strongest idea was. I think this sort of bias arises when
I’ve put more sustained effort into an idea making it more rounded and
polished. The general reception for both
of my veins of thought was very good with people enjoying the short .mov animation.
There was agreement that the anamorphic typography was worth pursuing. However
people also liked the other theme, of reliance due to its 3D nature and
possibly more contextual basis. It was suggested that I attempt to amalgamate
the two fairly disparate ideas, which I think would be possible to an extent.
However it would be a bit harder if I attempt to continue with the 3D element
in its current duration due to the end product having to work mainly in 2D.
I will look into simplifying the diagonal forms
and possibly incorporating radial, horizontal and vertical lines to further the
potential for abstraction when shapes overlap. I will also research line moire
as was suggested by a peer and brush up on my after effect literacy.
Most peers were designing logotypes or Rana
Begum the curator so their styles were far more abstract than mine. I feel it
is appropriate for my logotype to be more ruthlessly geometric so convey the
theme of the exhibition. The need for the final product to spell out the full Occasional
Geometries title and not just OG was raised which is something I must also take
on board.
